Gretta Fernandes SSpS - Executive Secretary, VIVAT International

We are delighted to celebrate the incredible achievements of the Scalabrinian Foundation and its dedicated members, Sr. Rosita Milesi, MSCS, and Sr. Neusa de Fátima Mariano, MSCS.

On October 9, 2024, Sr. Rosita Milesi from Brazil was honored with the UNHCR Nansen Award 2024. This prestigious recognition celebrates her unwavering commitment to refugees and migrants in Brazil. Through her tireless efforts, Sr. Rosita has uplifted vulnerable communities and fostered hope among those displaced, making an indelible impact on countless lives.

Further amplifying their advocacy efforts, on October 14, 2024, Sr. Neusa de Fátima Mariano, representing the Scalabrinian Foundation, signed a Letter of Understanding with José Samaniego, UNHCR’s Regional Director for the Americas. This pivotal agreement outlines priority actions to enhance protection and assistance for forcibly displaced and stateless individuals across the Americas, with a special focus on supporting women and girls.

We extend our heartfelt congratulations to the Scalabrinian Foundation for their steadfast dedication to protecting the rights and dignity of migrants and refugees. Their mission is a beacon of hope for those in need, and we wish them continued success in their vital work.

A special thanks to Fabian Onyekachi Adindu, CSSp, for facilitating the Scalabrinian sisters’ registration as VIVAT International members for the recent UN event in Geneva.
