Capacity Building – Human Rights and National Advocacy

A VIVAT International workshop took place in Jharsuguda, in the State of Odisha, India, from 31 August to 5 September 2015. It was attended by 67 members of VIVAT International. They in turn represented the founding, member and associate congregations of VIVAT International as well as some laymen and women.

Indian and International speakers from several Activist Movements, from Academia, missionaries from the field and the Steyler Bank addressed us and provided inputs. There were also reports from VIVAT national delegates. Two days of outings were arranged so that the group could see the effects of open cast coal mining on the environment and meet the people of some indigenous communities and hear from them how mining has impacted their lives.
