The 61st Session of the Commission on the Status of Women (CSW 61) dealt with the theme “Women’s Economic Empowerment in the changing world of work,” About 4000 delegates and representatives attended this annual event. Over 600 side events/parallel events were held, looking at various dimensions of women and world of work. Various angles such as, unpaid care work, social protection, women and girls in vulnerable situations especially those trafficked, migrants and refugees, were focused.
VIVAT International collaborated with the civil society through written statement, oral statement, and cosponsoring a parallel event. Twelve members participated in CSW61, and participated in various events during these days. The link to Agreed Conclusions of CSW61.

“Defense of Land and Water: Economic Empowerment of Women”
The side event, “Defense of Land and Water: Economic Empowerment of Women” under the banner of Mining Working Group was cosponsored by VIVAT International and five other UN NGOs. The panelists highlighted the issues the impact on women in the world of work by focusing on right to water, women farmers and global policies on land and water. The involvement of people on the ground in drawing up policies on land and water is essential.
