The Comboni Family—comprising the Comboni Missionaries, Comboni Missionary Sisters, Comboni Secular Missionaries, and Comboni Lay Missionaries—has launched a collaborative initiative focused on integral ecology and mission. This effort continues a journey that began with the Comboni presence at the World Social Forum in Nairobi in 2007. That initial involvement sparked a global mapping of more than 200 social ministry experiences and ignited a broader reflection on the Church’s social mission through a charismatic lens.
The current phase of this collaboration builds on an invitation from the Comboni Missionaries in Brazil to engage with the processes leading up to COP30, which will be held from November 10–22, 2025, in Belém, Brazil. This engagement is not merely event-focused but is deeply rooted in the mission to accompany the cry of the Earth and the cry of the poor. It also aligns the Comboni Family with ecclesial and civil society actors in the pursuit of climate and social justice.
The group is actively connecting with several key networks and movements such as Igreja Rumo à COP30, Tapiri da Amazônia, and the Cúpula dos Povos. Strategic partnerships include VIVAT Brazil and the Interfaith Liaison Committee, a faith-based platform accredited to the COP processes.
More than just participating in COP30, this is a journey of conversion and engagement. The initiative aims to bring Comboni communities, especially at the grassroots, into a deeper understanding and practice of integral ecology. In preparation, two global webinars are being organized ahead of the Comboni Forum in Belém. Hybrid participation options will allow members who cannot travel to still contribute and engage.
At the heart of this journey is a commitment to discernment—reading the signs of the times in the light of the Gospel and the Spirit’s prompting. It is a path of reflection and action, anchored in mission, where the Comboni Family seeks to deepen its vision and commitment to integral ecology as an essential dimension of its charism today.
