Students from the Missionary Servants of the Holy Spirit Education Network have released a powerful Final Resolution Document and Manifesto ahead of COP30. This document represents the collective voice of young people committed to social transformation and the protection of our “Common Home.”
Core Mission and Objectives
The manifesto emphasizes that climate change is not merely an environmental problem, but a fundamental issue of social justice. The students’ primary goals include:
- Mitigating Inequality: Establishing measures to reduce the gap between developed, emerging, and developing nations.
- Promoting Climate Ethics: Supporting better governance and international cooperation for the formulation of resolutions.
- Protecting Vulnerable Communities: Preventing the displacement of refugees and ensuring that those most affected have a voice in shaping the future.
Key Proposals for a Sustainable Future
The resolution outlines several concrete initiatives to address global ecological debts and environmental degradation:
- Climate Emergency Fund (CEF): The students propose an amendment to the Green Fund to create the CEF, providing financial assistance to countries most vulnerable to disasters like floods and droughts.
- Equitable Financing: This fund would be financed equally by BRICS nations (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa), the United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Canada, Finland, Norway, Saudi Arabia, and the World Bank.
- Focus Countries: The fund should prioritize immediate action in nations such as Bangladesh, Indonesia, the Republic of Maldives, Tonga, and the Pacific Islands.
- Resilient Infrastructure: Funding should be directed toward constructing shelters, efficient drainage systems, and risk-monitoring technologies to withstand natural disasters.
- Indigenous Wisdom: The document calls for the creation of Sakedoïia Oligináïia Climate Forums to integrate millennial indigenous knowledge into modern climate solutions.
- Industrial Reform: The resolution requests the mandatory installation of filters in factory chimneys and the adoption of sustainable incineration technologies that convert waste into energy.
Education as a Tool for Change
A central theme of the manifesto is the urgent need to update school curricula. The students advocate for:
- Socio-environmental programs: These programs would enable youth to participate actively in the formulation of international public policies.
- Multilingual youth networks: Establishing these in all schools would facilitate the exchange of experiences and training across borders.
- Updated teaching materials: Materials should be authored by members of indigenous communities to raise awareness and foster harmonious coexistence with nature.
“We, young people, will not accept a future of scarcity, injustice, and environmental devastation. The time for talk is over. It is time to act.”
This resolution serves as a formal call to world leaders to move beyond “empty promises” and implement transparent, effective climate policies that include the active participation of the youth.
